28 #HackForce teams hacking the virus!

The first fully virtual hackathon for the online environment HackForce is taking place from March 17 to March 19! Hackathon aims to find solutions to the challenges posed by the coronavirus crisis by mobilizing volunteer resources at the community level. Organized by volunteers from the startup community, hackathon HackForce has gathered already 650 participants (and this number is increasing EVERY minute) from 18 countries. Hackers have formed 28 teams and are working on ideas (from the 71 originally submitted) to hack the virus:

Reporter and researcher tool for accurate modeling of COVID-19 cases

Real-time information on COVID-19 right from your hood
Artificia –
connected by chatbot: volunteer-based care for the elderly
DataCalculus –
Allows to track and predict food shortage during emergencies
CoronaLog –
Social responsibility movement tracker
Latvijas Corona Karte 24/7 –
An interactive web-based map to visualize and track confirmed coronavirus cases in Latvia

Collaborative remote learning space for teams
Cloudmed –
Ensure payments to people in self-isolation/quarantine whenever they need it

What is most exciting, best teams will be able to develop their ideas right away as the hackathon prize fund currently totals 39 000 euros and is designed to support the quick and successful implementation of #HackForce ideas!  The Ministry of Economics in cooperation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) has pledged 25 000 euros in funding to the most promising projects.Also, many companies are pitching in – Swedbank Latvia will give 3000 EUR split among three teams; Latvijas Mobilais Telefons will award a 3 000 euro cash prize to the winning team; TET will give 5000 euroes from their side and Ubiquity is pitching in 3000 EUR also split for three teams to help fund the projects.

Mentors inform teams need: data scientists, front-end developers, back-end developers, full-stack developers, medical advisory, social marketing, UX/UI designers, graphic and 3D designers, contacts in corporations, hospitals, health institutions, the advice in bioreactors and nutrition solutions.
